This is the story of Peanut
and sticks and stones...
"You look sad, Peanut", I said early this morning when I gave him his breakfast.
Peanut didn't say anything for a minute. Then he said, "Sugar called me a name."
"No one should ever call somebody a name! Should they?" I could see that Peanut's feelings were hurt.
"My mother always told me that 'Sticks and stones may break your bones but words can never hurt you!'
Well, that's wrong. Ask your mom, dad, aunt and uncle if they can remember
when somebody called them a name when they were little... They will remember!
And if they think about it, they can remember who said it! That sounds to me like a big hurt."
Peanut thought about what I had said and asked me, "Did anybody call you a name?"
"Yes. When I was 15, a pretty girl that I really liked called me 'giraffe neck'.
I think her name was Alice Rae Goss..."
